Virtual extension vs. Voicemail-only extension

A Voicemail-only extension is a free extension that can be used as a General Office voicemail box, the voicemail box of a department, or for any other voicemail purpose.  The extension does not have a Username or Password configurable meaning these extensions cannot use HUD, the Fonality User Panel, FONcall, or any other software, feature, or technology where Fonality requires a Username and Password for access.

Voicemail-only extensions are best used as general office voicemail boxes, department voicemail boxes, or as 'dummy' extensions used to forward callers to a specific submenu (including submenus containing queues).

A Virtual extension is a non-free extension that does not require the customer to associate an IP Phone (or softphone) via the Admin Panel, but Virtual extensions can use HUD, FONcall, the Fonality User Panel, and every other software, feature, or technology where Fonality requires a Username and Password for access.

Virtual extensions are best used when the user does not require a phone, but they do require the ability to use HUD and login to the User Panel.  Such a user might be in charge of ACD reports and use their access to the User Panel in order to run daily, weekly, or monthly reports.  This virtual extension may be accessible to a number of different users so that managers can take turns logging in and running reports (i.e. if a Call Center has three different shift managers who all access the reporting interface via the same Username and Password)
