This article serves to explain the installation and utilization process of the Expansion Module for the Polycom IP650:

Adding users is a fairly simple process:
1. Click on the "Directories" button directly below the quick-dial buttons:

2. Choose option 1 - Contact Directory:

3. Once here, add the user information - specifically first and last name, phone number or extension, and the Speed Dial Index:

4. Press "Save" and the contact will now appear in the directory.
The Polycom IP650 provides enough screenspace to allow for the use of five "quick-dial" shortcuts:

One may call these contacts quickly by simply pressing the button next to the contact and an outbound call will be placed. However, sometimes more than five quick-dial slots are required. In these cases, a Polycom IP650 Expansion Module, also known as a sidecar, can be installed.
Installation is a fairly quick and painless process. Note that the sidecar does not have a secondary power source, and has a single point of contact with the phone:

Once the base has been installed on the sidecar, remove the rubber stopper at the top right of the IP650:

Next, slide the sidecar into place:

Once connected, the sidecar will power up and display the extra contacts in the directory:

NOTE: If contact entries have the same Speed Dial Index numbers, only one entry will display on the screen. Be mindful to not let these numbers overlap.
Additional Info: You can also add these contacts as BLF (Busy Lamp Fields) from your user control panel.

By default, the Polycom 650 will visually display a call coming into another extension that you've added as a BLF. You can turn on an audible alert by pressing Menu -> 3 -> 1 -> 4 -> Attendant calls and setting a ringtone. NOTE: This setting will revert to default (silent ringer) anytime you make any changes to the extension and the phone reboots. You will have to set the ringtone manually any time that happens.
See attached Excel spreadsheet for information about phones that support BLF, how many lines of BLF supported per phone, and the minimum firmware required.
